Fall is HERE--Is Your Home Prepared?

As summer comes to an end, and fall is here, school has started, the weather SHOULD be cooling off, and the days get shorter. We begin to spend more time indoors and look forward to the activities and holidays of the season. If your home is not prepared for the fall season that is now upon us, hurry in to Victoria Station before it is too late. The Fragrance of Fall 

With the change of our daily activities, spending less time outdoors in the pool and on the lake and less time grilling outside, make your space comfortable inside. What makes a home feel more inviting than it smelling good?  With a new shipment of decorative tart warmers and corresponding fragranced wax squares for melting, you can introduce the yummy smells of Cinnamon Hazelnut Latte, Apple Pie, Warm Cinnamon Buns, and everyone's favorite, Snickerdoodle, into your home!  Just break off a square of the highly fragranced wax and drop it into the warmer, the light then warms the wax, releasing the aroma of the season.  The warmer is also an accent lamp. These warmers come in multiple colors and designs, including the warm fall color in Crackled Amber glass, a new glass and metal design that looks like a nautical lantern, a silver mercury glass design that would look great with many neutral interior decor styles.  A couple of other favorites have been a neutral pearl glass, and a pieced sea glass warmer, that complement the nautical blues and teals that are so popular in lake houses and lake condos.  New and just arrived are 3 styles of the smaller plug-in design, that are great for use in a kitchen or bathroom, plugged directly into a socket, keeping extra clutter off the counter. Candle warmers have changed, they now look good, as well as being functional! These warmers and wax melts also make GREAT gift options during the Christmas holidays.

Fall Decorative Items

The favorite traditional sights of fall include pumpkins, fall leaves, gourds, scarecrows, turkeys, and pilgrims!  This year we have a great selection of pilgrims, and a couple of 15" tall pilgrim pairs at GREAT prices, under $20!  Another favorite this year is 4-7" pumpkins in assorted colors and sizes, with lightly glittered finished, and flat options.  Well, not flat, but wide and thin. These are great in window sills, bookcases, and ledges where depth is a challenge! With many of these being in the $3-5 range, they have been a hit!  If pumpkin orange is not your decor color, we have a variety of pumpkins in neutral colors, too!  A very classy black and taupe combination is not your average pumpkin for your home!  

In the Kitchen

Yes, with the days getting shorter, and cooling off, we spend more time indoors in the kitchen.  In addition to the other traditional fall decor, we have a large selection of placemats and napkins to accent your decor and add warmth to your table.  With the extra time at home, who isn't looking for new recipe ideas!  We have always carried a selection of cookbooks with beautiful covers and pictures of recipes on every page.

Illuminated Pictures

Lit pictures have been another great addition to fall decor.  A standard favorite is a jack-o'-lantern, that is lit behind, giving the appearance of candles inside, just like those from our childhood that have been a long time tradition for Halloween.  No messy cleaning out the pumpkin with these!  Another favorite this year, is an "old" barn with jack-o-'lanterns glowing in the windows and pairs of eyes peering out of other windows, with a gorgeous orange sunset behind. These are spooky-cute. They light up with AA batteries, and have a timer feature as well.  

Christmas Season

Shhhhh, don't say it out loud, but… Christmas is coming!  Yes, I said it.  We have been working hard behind the scenes, since the beginning of the year getting ready for Christmas, that work is now taking place IN the store!  We have been displaying Christmas items since the end of June (and have been selling them also!).  If you haven't been in last few weeks, you won't recognize it, as the Christmas trees are going up, and the new Christmas displays are getting set.  We currently have the best selection of Christmas items that we will have all season.  If you are needing gifts for nieces, secretaries, teachers, sororities, grandchildren, friends, and employees, now is the time to make a trip to Victoria Station!

Wall Art at Victoria Station

Victoria Station has long been known for our variety and large selection of wall art. In just the past 2 weeks, we have received 2 new shipments of wall art, including many new nautical pieces, floral, impressionistic, geometric, traditional, and this year’s BIG thing, trees! Many of our customers make Victoria Station a destination, while on their search for new art. Others fall in love with a piece, when they are least expecting it. We encourage you to take photos of the room and wall where you need your new addition and measure, if possible. We will try to help you find that perfect thing to complete the space. Many of the pieces, are the new trend, with an abstract pattern, that can be a great backdrop for your existing sculpture, lamps, bowls, etc. In years past, most wall art had a specific subject matter, for instance wildlife, landscapes, beach scenes, etc. While artwork with a specific subject is still the majority of what we sell, we are seeing customers that do like the more abstract pieces, adding color, dimension, and patterns to a room, without setting a theme. In years past, wall art was very traditional, with multiple mats, glass, and a heavy frame. That style of artwork always created a challenge in lake houses that usually have many large windows that face the lake, creating a glare on the glass, which can make the print or art difficult to see. Thank goodness, wall art has changed!!!

1.  Stretched canvas is the thing! This type of art is much as the title suggests, the picture is applied to the canvas, and it is stretched, and wrapped around a simple wooden frame, that is not seen. This lightweight art, is fun, easy to hang, has great vibrant colors, and features no glare!

2.  Brushstrokes are also great, similar to the stretch canvas, there is no glass, but the image is applied to a more sturdy board structure, and framed. This type, again, has the positive feature of not having a glare, the colors are more intense, and some even have more paint applied, creating a hand painted look, with tons of texture! Even with the addition of the frame, these are typically more lightweight than the traditional frame with glass from previous years.

3.  Mirrors. We have a selection of mirrors in traditional, contemporary, and even a nautical feel. These are great added to a small guest room or hallway, making the small space appear larger. The style in bathroom mirrors, over a bathroom vanity is the framed mirror, instead of plate glass, and many of our mirrors would work for this purpose as well.

4.  Wood and metal sculptures are a great addition when decorating or redecorating spaces. Depth and interest can be added to a room, when mixing both flat pictures with shaped wood or metal sculptures on the wall.

5.  Wood plaques and signs. With an interesting mix of wood signs with fun, silly, sentimental, and inspirational sayings, plus board signs with images applied, these make great thank you and hostess gift!

5 Of Our Favorite Fall Fashion Items

Now is the time to prepare for the cooler fall weather, which will soon arrive in Missouri. From beautiful jewelry pieces to fall-inspired handbags, we have a number of accessories to help complete your fall look. 1. Necklaces-

The trend in necklaces this year are the long layered look, with multiple chains that cascade inside each other. Many of these have a series of chains that are accented with stones, metal bars, or tinted beads. Another look we carry is natural polished stones. The color in the necklace does not need to match an outfit, as it can complement it with an opposing color, to add color.  Another favorite this year has been the "tree of life" necklace.  

Turquoise is still a big color, and can be worn with many different colors, including all the rich warm reds of fall. Turquoise is not necessarily worn to match, in fact it doesn't need to "match", it pairs nicely with almost any color!  To dresses up a simple jeans and t-shirt outfit, add one of our necklaces.  

2. Purses-

A new trend this year is blush colored watches, which are gorgeous and can be worn with ANY color!  

4. Scarves-

Scarves are always a favorite for fall and winter, and are available from very lightweight to heavy and knobby knits.  We have a lightweight black scarf with silver accents in several different patterns that has already been a hit, and has been reordered.  At only $8.50, it's a GREAT gift giving scarf, and won't last long!

5. Boot Socks-

With the trend of boots in footwear, of course, the boot sock was created!  Last year, boot socks were a HUGE HIT!  They are back this year, with more styles, colors, and now several different lengths!  To accompany the boot sock, there are several complimenting fingerless gloves, also referred to as texting gloves!  With the smartphone that is now common in everyday life, a traditional glove does not work!  The fingers must be exposed to interact with the phone.

Out With The Old, In With The New!

Where has the summer gone?  It's already August!  July is always a busy month at Victoria Station, with all the vacationers who come in to see what is new since they were here last summer.  It is great to see and visit with all our frequent customer-friends too, who come in more often.  We appreciate so much those of you who bring in your guests, both relatives and friends.

Stock Up For Fall and Christmas

July always finds us hustling to check in all the new fall and Christmas surprises that we ordered at the Atlanta Market last January.  Yes, "surprises"!  Misti and Jackie made the buying decisions in January, but by July, we are sometimes surprised with some of the goodies that arrive.  (We can’t always remember everything that we ordered!)  Our warehouse is now full of spectacular fall and Christmas items.  We get our Christmas room filled as early as we can in July.  It's a good time for Grandmothers to find a beautiful ornament for each grandchild on their list, while the selection is at its best.

Along with new seasonal goodies for fall and the Christmas season, we have been overwhelmed with all the ponchos, light weight jackets, jewelry, and purses of all sizes and colors that have arrived for the fall season.  Some of the purses are two-toned, brown-navy, brown- burgundy, brown-hunter green!  They are especially attractive!

Now, August is here, so we are beginning to plan on our big Labor Day event....The famous, Annual Victoria Station Labor Day Weekend Tent Sale!!  Yes, we've been having this sale for the past 30 years, saying good-bye to all the scratch and dent merchandise that's stuck here and there in the warehouse, as well as the one-of-kind items that have been in the backroom and warehouse too long.  THEY HAVE TO GO!
